“Choosing the right typeface is about more than just selecting what looks good. Different type styles evoke different emotions and associations, making it essential to consider the context in which they’re being used. Display typefaces are usually used as focal points in a design, so they need to do a clear job at establishing hierarchy. This becomes particularly important when you start integrating multiple fonts in the same design, and that’s when concepts such as contrast, size and weight come into play.”
João Neves is a freelance graphic designer, illustrator and music producer. He’s mostly known for his lettering work, fruit of his obsession with vintage graphic design and typography. His lettering journey started in 2013 as a necessity but quickly turned into a full-time passion. Since then, he started to include it in almost all of his projects, from branding and tee-shirt designs to packaging or murals.
