Adrian Meseck — Dusseldorf, Germany

"The gradients used in the multi-language Japan Week catalogue are yellow and magenta, reddish coloured. Combined with the black text and white paper, you get a flavour of both German and Japanese flags in an abstract way."

German-based graphic designer Adrian Meseck has been commissioned by Dusseldorf University of Applied Science to design a booklet documenting Japan Week, part of an international event that celebrates 150 years of friendship between Japan and Germany. Raised in Indonesia, Adrian has utilised his dual European-Asian heritage as a cultural reference for the project: “My aim was to achieve a handshake in a design sense – a very clear and structured layout meets neon poppy-coloured gradients. A bit of German and a bit of Japanese prejudice.”
