Magic of editing and composition

Perhaps in no other art form is editing quite such a crucial part of the creative process as in movie-making. Novels can be improved with the intervention of a skilled editor, a play can be knocked into shape by its producer, but when it comes to telling stories on a screen, it is quite common for many hours of original footage to be handed in to the cutting-room for "doctoring": on the judgement of whoever is wielding the scissors will depend the ultimate success or failure of the film (though in many cases, the director will be standing over that person telling them what to do).
